Ultrafiltration Questions, Answered

The questions buyers and distributors ask us most often about hollow fiber membranes, filter cartridges and certification — answered with the specifications we actually publish.

What does an ultrafiltration membrane actually remove?
Our ultrafiltration membranes work at 0.01 micron. At that precision the membrane physically blocks bacteria, viruses, protozoa, sediment, rust and microplastics, while leaving dissolved minerals in the water. That is the practical difference between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis: UF treats what is suspended in the water, not what is dissolved in it.
How is ultrafiltration different from reverse osmosis?
Ultrafiltration rejects particles at 0.01 micron, keeps beneficial minerals, and normally needs no electricity and no water waste. Reverse osmosis rejects dissolved solids, which means it needs pressure — usually from mains plus a pump — and produces concentrate. Many installations use both: UF as protection upstream, RO where dissolved solids are the actual problem.
Are your filter cartridges washable, and how long do they last?
Yes. Our hollow fiber cartridges are washable rather than consumable, and a self-cleaning function is built into the systems that hold them. Rated service life depends on the model: 12 months on the 10-inch PVDF cartridge, 18 months on the under-sink housings and outdoor straws, 24 months on the stainless whole-house element and the RO system, and up to 36 months on the stainless-steel hollow fiber replacement cartridge.
Do your water filter systems need electricity?
Most do not. The H-1/H-2/H-7 whole-house units, the ZH-A five-stage system, the ZH-B three-stage housing, the C-B2 faucet mount, the shower filters and every outdoor model are manual with a 0 W power draw. The exception is the R-A1 reverse osmosis system, which runs a 45 W booster pump at 200 V / 50 Hz (110 V and 220 V builds available) because RO needs pressure to push water through a tighter membrane.
What is the standard cartridge size?
10 inches — 70 × 252 mm (2.76 × 9.92 in) for our hollow fiber elements. This is the industry-standard dimension, so the cartridges drop into housings that already exist in the market rather than requiring a proprietary body.
What flow rates do you cover?
Across the catalogue: 100 GPD on the PVDF 10-inch cartridge, 500 GPD on the stainless hollow fiber cartridge, 120 L/h on the faucet filter, 180–220 L/h on the 5-stage stainless system, 3000 GPD on the high-flow 10-inch elements, 2400 GPD on the 4040 industrial RO membrane, and flow grades from 3000 L/h up to 10000 L/h on the whole-house stainless units.
Which certifications do your products hold?
We hold an NSF/ANSI 42 certificate for the PES ultrafiltration membrane, plus an NSF evaluation report showing it passed NSF/ANSI/CAN 372-2024 lead-content testing. The scans are published on the quality page, and NSF issues them against a specific model and material - so send us the model you are buying and we will confirm which mark it carries.
Do your membranes contain or remove PFAS?
Those are two different questions, and the honest answers differ. On what the membrane gives off: NSF International screened the Orange ULTRAFILTRATION - PES membrane component in its material-extraction report (J-00528974, tested to NSF/ANSI 42-2023, result PASS), and all nine compounds on the PFAS panel came back below their reporting limits, which sit between 3 and 6 ng/L, in the sample and in the control alike. On what the membrane removes from your water: nothing we can prove. A 0.01 micron ultrafiltration membrane is a physical barrier to suspended matter, and dissolved species pass through it the same way hardness ions and nitrate do. Reducing dissolved PFAS needs another stage - normally activated carbon or reverse osmosis. We hold no test report showing a PFAS reduction percentage for any product, so there is no such number anywhere on this site. The full seventeen-page extraction report is reproduced here page by page if you would rather read the panel than a summary of it.
Are you the manufacturer, or a trading company?
We are the manufacturer. Our facility is in Xingtan, Shunde, Foshan, Guangdong, and we spin our own hollow fiber membrane on the same site as cartridge assembly and the testing lab. That matters commercially: membrane pore consistency, hydrophilicity, mechanical strength and batch-to-batch repeatability are the variables that decide a cartridge’s real performance, and we control them instead of buying them from a third party.
Can you produce filters under our own brand?
Yes — OEM and ODM is our main line of business. We customise membrane formulation, housing construction, laser-engraved logos, colour (the shower filter alone ships in six), and packaging that meets international safety standards including NSF. Retail-ready gift-box packaging with a multilingual installation guide is available on the faucet filter, and colour-box packaging on the cartridge lines.
Why do shower filters use mixed media instead of a membrane?
Because the problem is different. Shower water is not usually a drinking-water problem — it is a skin and hair problem caused by hot water, chlorine and pipe sediment. Our shower filter conditions the water with a stack of Vitamin C, PP, activated carbon fiber and mineral balls rather than trying to purify it, which is the right treatment for that job and keeps flow rate comfortable.
