Outdoor & Emergency Filtration: Straws, Bottles and Gravity UF

For hiking, travel, camps and emergency kits, 0.01 micron hollow-fiber ultrafiltration works with zero infrastructure: drink directly through a filter straw rated to 120 L/h with about 1,500 L (400 gallon) element life, or hang a gravity bag and let water weight alone push through the membrane - no pump, no power, no batteries.

The same PVDF hollow-fiber technology inside our whole-house modules shrinks to pocket size. Because the fibers are washable, one element survives a season of stream water instead of being thrown away.

What can a hollow fiber straw actually remove?

Bacteria, protozoa, sediment and turbidity at 0.01 micron absolute. It does not remove dissolved chemicals, salt or reliably viruses - for chemical hazards use a carbon or RO-rated system instead.

How long does one filter last?

The O-A1 straw is rated for 3,000 L (about 790 gallons) and the O-A6 for at least 1,000 L; both use a washable hollow fiber UF stage at 0.01 micron. Backflush and brush cleaning restore flow.

Does it work with no water pressure?

Yes - gravity feed is enough. We recommend hanging the source about 0.5 m above the filter for comfortable flow; portable UF elements are designed for that duty.

Frequently asked questions

Can I clean it in the field?

Rinse and backflush with clean water; the hollow fiber tolerates brushing - that is the point of the washable UF stage.

How should I store it?

Store between 0 and 40 degrees C. Do not let a wet element freeze - drain it before cold storage.

Do these meet export certifications?

The straw line (O-A1, O-A6, O-A7) is on our CE technical-file verification and uses the NSF-certified PES membrane; retail packaging and branding available via OEM programs.
