Water Filtration for Restaurant Kitchens and Ice Machines
Ice is the most honest water test in a restaurant: it is looked at, chewed and compared. Chlorine and organics show up as smell and haze, particles as sediment in the bin, and hardness as scale on the evaporator. A five-stage system with carbon block and 0.01 micron UF addresses the first two; hardness still needs softening.
Kitchens run several water users off one line: ice machine, combi oven, steamer, coffee brewer, dish machine. Each fails differently. The ice machine scales its evaporator, the steamer clogs its jets, the brewer loses temperature recovery. One properly sized filter upstream of all of them is cheaper than four small ones and keeps the failure modes in one place.

Why does ice look cloudy?
Cloudiness is usually dissolved air and fine particles freezing in suspension, not contamination. Removing the particle load and stabilising the feed with carbon produces clearer ice; it cannot remove dissolved gas, which is why freezing technique still matters.
What does a five-stage system add over three?
ZH-A adds an RFC stage and a T33 polishing stage around the 0.01 micron element. In practice that means better chlorine and taste control for drinking water and ice, at a lower flow than ZH-B: 220 L/h against 350 L/h. Choose on whether taste or volume is the binding constraint.
Will filtration stop scale in the steamer?
No. Scale is a hardness problem and needs ion exchange or reverse osmosis. What filtration does is stop the particles that act as nucleation sites and the chlorine that attacks rubber seals, which slows the visible decline without pretending to solve chemistry.
Typical configuration

ZH-A 5-Stage Stainless Steel UF System
Wall-mounted or under-sink five-stage ultrafiltration system in a 304 stainless steel body. PP, RFC, CTO, UF and T33 cartridges run in series at 0.01 micron and 220 L/h, with a pressure gauge and interchangeable cartridges.
220 L/h · PP + RFC + carbon + UF + T33

ZH-B 3-Stage Transparent Under-Sink UF System
Three-stage under-sink system with transparent reinforced housings: PP cotton, carbon block and a hollow fiber UF membrane at 350 L/h. The clear housing lets an end user see cartridge condition without opening the unit.
350 L/h · PP + carbon + UF

R-A1 5-Stage RO System 100 GPD
Five-stage reverse osmosis system with booster pump: PP, UDF, CTO, a 100 GPD RO membrane and T33 post-carbon, rated 45 W at 200 V / 50 Hz. Modular interchangeable cartridges and a 400 × 180 × 465 mm under-sink footprint.

Frequently asked questions
Can one filter serve the ice machine and the coffee brewer?
Yes, if it is sized for both. A 220 L/h unit covers a typical restaurant ice machine plus brewing; add the dish machine only after checking its peak draw.
Does filtered water make ice freeze faster?
Removing particles and dissolved air nuclei can change crystal formation slightly, but we do not claim a freeze-time improvement - it depends on the machine and the operator.
What maintenance does it need?
Periodic element and cartridge changes, driven by volume and turbidity. The stainless housing in ZH-A is permanent; the consumables are the PP, carbon and UF stages.
